During years, SWHARD has developed several products and concepts involving innovative technologies such as VR/AR and GPS tracking, from both B2B customers and EU funded R&D projects


Although SWHARD is a company whose core business is the realization of embedded systems, over the years we have developed internally or for our clients applications for VR/AR/XR environments.
Inbox is a small industrial-grade 9-axis inertial platform capable of returning its orientation in space with frequencies up to 1kHz, in addition to the orientation of the magnetic field, linear and angular acceleration. An important feature, in addition to the sampling frequency, is the variety of communication interfaces: USB, RS232/485, CANbus/CanOpen, wired and wireless (802.11/802.15.4). It is also possible to pair a GNSS module, to combine data on absolute position in addition to orientation data. Inbox was created as a head movement tracking add-on in systems for simulations in virtual environments.
VRPP, one of SWHARD's patents, is a system that introduces the ability to take notes, draw, fill out forms, read and annotate documents into an immersive VR environment. The user uses a pen and a graphics tablet to interact with one or more virtual notepads, forms and documents in the virtual environment.
VRPP is compatible with existing VR/AR systems and can be used for various industrial use cases (remote inspection, training, assistance, etc.) and non-industrial use cases. A near-gaming example can be found at https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=NYzJRkzRCTk
In another use case, i.e. remote assistance, the operator using an AR device transmits video and audio and feeds to a remote expert, who is in an immersive environment, just like the operator, with the ability to recall documentation, annotate it, draw sketches on paper or on snapshots of the first-person feed and send them to the operator.
WELDWAISE is an R&D project, co-financed by the Liguria Region with PR-FESR funds, aiming to create an innovative technological solution for advanced support to industrial welding. The main objective of the project is the integration of cutting-edge AI, IoT, VR and blockchain technologies into a complex system for continuous monitoring of welding processes, predictive and automatic anomaly detection, certification of the final outcome, thus contributing to the introduction of optimized, efficient and safe organizational and operational models, for the execution of quality welds.
Within this project, SWHARD has developed and integrated an HUD (Head Up Display) solution that has the function of displaying the necessary information regarding the welding process in execution directly in the operator's mask.
